Year 6 and 7 pupils from ISJ travelled to Cibalung Happyland Camp in Bogor for a residential trip filled with adventure, teamwork, and new experiences. Set in the mountainous wilderness outside Jakarta, the trip rewarded a term of hard work with two days of hands-on learning and outdoor exploration.
Into the Fields
The first activities took the group straight into the landscape. Pupils rode buffalo-drawn carts through waterlogged fields, planted rice crops by hand, fed cattle, and planted their own strawberries to take home. Hands, legs, and feet were covered in mud, but the smiles were just as visible.
Water, Cooking, and Challenges
After a change of clothes, the group headed to the water park, complete with slides, a lazy river, and a giant overhead bucket that drew plenty of laughter. Later, the pupils moved to the kitchen to try their hand at making local desserts. The homemade potato crisps proved the undisputed favourite.
The afternoon offered a wide range of activities: a giant trampoline, archery, a zipline, target shooting, mini ATVs, and a rabbit park. It was a chance to try new things, overcome fears, and cheer each other on.
Evening and Homeward
Dinner was a BBQ spread, with two Korean pupils demonstrating Korean-style grilling for the group. The evening ended with a campfire game of Werewolf, revealing some hidden talents for trickery and deduction in equal measure.
After breakfast the next morning, the group made the most of one more round of activities before heading back to school. The trip was a success by every measure, and the pupils were already asking when the next one would be.
